Sioux Valley Middle School students were introduced to Wednesday Workshops today during their morning exploratory class (PE, Art, FACS, STEM). Mr. Aasness, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Jerzak, and Mrs. Vincent will host Wednesday Workshops during their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th periods with 7th grade, 6th grade, and 8th grade, respectively.
Wednesday Workshops are a weekly session for each middle school grade that offers students a choice of activities. These activities are designed to foster social-emotional skills, teamwork, and joy! Examples include team games, board games, coding, or other areas of passion for both students and staff. Also, one workshop each week is an academic workshop. This workshop gives students an opportunity to receive assistance during the school day with homework completion. In the following weeks beginning on September 15th, students with missing assignments that are recommended by teaching staff will be signed up for an academic workshop to receive needed assistance.
Wednesday homework help will remain in place after school on Wednesdays; however, it will now be an optional opportunity for our students rather than a mandate.
I'm excited for providing help to students that need it academically, socially, and emotionally as well as sparking joy in our students. A big thank you to Mr. Aasness, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Jerzak, Mrs. Vincent, and Mr. Ruesink for seeing the potential and fleshing out the idea. I'm especially grateful to Mrs. Jorgenson for seeing the need and a way to make it happen!
Onward Cossacks!
